Gateway showed off its FX P-series notebook, which starting on the 13th will be available in retail stores. The FX P-series features a Core 2 Duo E5450, mobile GeForce 8800 GTS, 3GB of memory and a 17" 1440 x 900 display. The killer? This notebook will be priced at $1349. A direct, build to order version will also be available later this month. Gateway is still working on mobile Penryn based systems, but motherboard compatibility is a concern, requiring some reworks on its designs. Due out in the next 2 quarters is an updated version of Gateway's 30" display. The display will feature the HQV Reon processor to handle all upscaling to 2560 x 1600. It will also use a 102% color gamut panel, up from the 92% panel that's currently used in the displays. These figures are in reference to NTSC color gamut, meaning that the new panel will be slightly oversaturated, which some consumers prefer.

I think that the display resolution of 1440 x 900 is a little weak for such a strong video card. My Dell 17" laptop does 1920 x 1200. They should have at least made it a 1680 x 1050 display.

agreed. If they have higher resolutions available for configuration though at reasonable prices it will be nice.

    The price is nice, though...

Looks interesting, but too bad it's a Gateway. Had nothing but problems with the ones we used to buy at work.

Thats actually pretty tempting as an desktop replacement...

I'm moving to Taiwan later this year and I've been thinking about the fact that lugging my pc halfway across the world doesn't seem very practical. I was thinking I'd just build an new one whilst over there but this seems like it would be an decent alternative with less hassle at that pricepoint.

I thought the E5450 was a xeon processor and the T5450 was the core duo one
