Sony's not the only company at CES showing off a variety of OLED displays. Samsung this year is displaying their prototype OLED displays with sizes up to 31". Since these are prototype displays, not much information was available at the show, but judging by the quality of the displays, Sony's going to have some stiff competition in the OLED market.

it's an optical illusion of sorts... bright colors always stand out more against black than against white. i think it mainly has to do with the fact that to your eye, black is an absence of light/color, so your eye in a sense ignores the black frame, and the image itself is given your eye's/mind's full attention. the white frame sort of adds confusion to what your eye sees, if that makes any sense.whatever the reason is, i want a giant OLED tv in the center of a pitch black room, and i want it now!

I see what you are saying, and have seen it in the past (black just looks sharper to me imo), but at least in that picture you can't judge the actual clarity of the displays because they are being looked at with different viewing angles.Fallen Kell - Tuesday, January 8, 2008 - link

Compare it with the second black trimmed display that is at an even more severe angle on the left of the white trimmed display.

Eh you can't even really tell what angle each of them are at, I'd be willing to say it's not that much of a difference. And even on the extremely angled black trim on in the back, the dark looks better. Imo of course.
